STYLES OF YOGA

Currently I teach Hatha, Stretching/yoga, Yin, Yin/Yang flow, restorative yoga and guided meditations at the studio Youcanyoga in Amsterdam. In addition, I teach private lessons in different locations. Within my yoga classes I integrate mindfulness and within mindfulness I integrate yoga.

HATHA YOGA

Hatha yoga is the traditional yoga which emphasizes physical static exercises to master the body along with the mind. These include benefits such as physical and mental strength and longevity. In the 20th century, techniques of Hatha yoga particularly the asanas (physical postures) became popular throughout the world as a form of physical exercise for relaxation, body flexibility, strength and personal concentration. Years of practicing increases mindful awareness.

YOGA STRETCHING

The origin of stretching lies in the Hatha Yoga. Stretching will unblock imbalances and tensions built up during our lifetimes or due to the stresses in daily life. Deep stretching can cure many discomforts such as a stiff neck, shoulder or back.

YIN YOGA

Yin yoga is a slow practice that focuses on the deeper connective tissues of the body like the ligaments, bones and joints. To reach these layers of the body, yoga postures are held for a longer period, while slowly moving deeper with the support of the breath. It is a perfect practice to complement a more dynamic (yang), such as Hatha and Vinyasa yoga practice, which both have a more muscular focus. Many of us live active, Yang-oriented lives with lots of external stimulation, long working hours and trying to get everywhere fast. Therefor we should balance this Yang energy with more Yin activities - taking some time out to connect with quietness and calmness.

YIN/YANG FLOW

With this combination of Yin and Vinyasa, students coordinate movement with breath to flow from one pose to the next. Yin qualities can be thought of as more internal, passive, meditative, cooling and downward while Yang (Vinyasa) is more external, dynamic, warming and upward. This form integrates both Yin and Yang elements in the practice.

RESTORATIVE YOGA

A very gentle class, suitable for all ages, levels and bodies. Restorative yoga is especially beneficial if you're tired, overworked, sick or injured. Blankets and props are used to make sure you get all the benefits of the asana's without forcing yourself. You'll be spending a lot of time in the poses, so the props will help you to comfortably relax, restore and breathe.
